PLA (polylactic acid) filament is amongst the oldest and still the most heavily used mediums in the 3D printing community, mainly due to its benefits as a versatile and environmentally friendly thermoplastic. Both organic and biodegradable, PLA is easily compounded with other ingredients to influence its final properties, for example flexibility and metallically. The uncolored form of Real PLA is a translucent off-white color and has a printing temperature between 195 - 205 degrees (depending on hot end characteristics). Darker colors of Real may require a few extra degrees of temperature due to the coloring process. The filament should extrude smoothly and appear slightly shiny. PLA is denser and tougher than ABS, but is more brittle and susceptible to cracking under high loads. It is also less resistant to the outdoor elements (UV light and water) than other common thermoplastics (see Nylon, ABS and PET-G).
PLA can print well on an unheated surface using Blue Painters or Kapton tape, and most 3D print stickers. For ease and convenience, we recommend using spray such as 3DLAC on a glass bed. A low bed temperature between 50 - 60 degrees further reduces the chance of warping and makes final print removal easier once the print surface has cooled.
3D printing has never been easier, with this great adhesion spray! Just spray a little bit of 3DLAC directly onto the glass of your heated bed and start printing. The spray can even be used without heat for PLA and PETG, although we recommend heating the bed up to respectively 50 and 60 degrees as letting the glass cool down, will release your object automatically from the bed. 3DLAC comes in a handy 400ml spray can, which will last your for hundreds of prints.
While 3D printing using FDM, layers cool down after deposition an shrink. This shrinkage in turn cause layers below to be bend upwards, causing the familiar warping effect. In bad cases the print will come loose from the plate and will be ruined. But no more! 3DLAC will allow for great bonding of the printed plastic with the glass surface under it, allowing even large prints to be made without warping.

A SD Card in your printer will allow you to store prints and print them directly from SD. This is more reliable than a USB connection and allows you to power down your computer.
A heated bed is important to reduce Warping and have a better adhesion of the 3D print to the print bed.
|Auto Bed Leveling
The auto bed leveling feature will probe the buildplate on a few different points. This allows the 3D printer to detect deviations in the buildplate and adjust the print accordingly. This makes is much easier to start a print as you don't have to manually adjust the bed position.
